Die Wellen des Meeres brechen sich am Bug des Schiffes und führen uns in die Vergangenheit, hin zu dem bewegten Leben meiner 1922 in Wien geborenen jüdischen Mutter und unserer Familie. Der Film erzählt von Flucht und Trennung, von den Ermordeten, dem Neuanfang meiner Mutter in Ostberlin und ihrer Mutter und Schwester in Lima, vom Leben diesseits und jenseits des Ozeans, von Stasi-Verfolgung und dem Ende einer Zeit in Atlantis. Es ist ein Familienfilm.
Ganz privat und ganz politisch.
The waves of the sea break on the bow of the ship and take us back in time, to the eventful life of my Jewish mother, born in Vienna in 1922, and our family. The film tells of escape and separation, of those murdered, of my mother’s new beginning in East Berlin and her mother and sister’s in Lima, of life on both sides of the ocean, of Stasi persecution, and the end of a time in Atlantis. It is a family film.
Completely private and completely political.
